General Advice If You Are Arrested

We have all heard about Miranda rights. These are featured in every police movie. It is the part of the movie where the police officer says you have the right to remain silent and continues listing various rights. The question often arises how are these used in a practical situation. What do I do when confronted by the police is a question that is often asked. If you arrested, it is important to exercise your rights. Exercising these rights could benefit you later in court. You should never run from the police or resist arrest. This behavior can lead to additional charges being brought against you. It is never a good idea. The most important thing is that you do not talk to the police officer. You have the right to remain silent. You should exercise it. The second most important thing to remember is that police officers can lie to you. Police officers will frequently state that they have evidence that they do not have. If you are confronted with this situation, always ask for an attorney. Always ask for an attorney if you have any dealings with police officers. Also, make your statement to the police unambiguous. Never consent to an officer search of personal items. Always state to the officer that you do not consent to a search. Also, it is important for you not to talk "smack" to police officers. Always object to police officers entering your home. Never ask to go back and get something when you are arrested. There are special rules for police officers to enter your home to arrest you. Generally speaking, police officers have to have an arrest warrant to enter your home. Dealing with police officers can be a stressful endeavor.
