How are you threatened by drowsy driving?

New Mexico residents like you share the road with plenty of other drivers. This ups your chance of getting involved in a crash. Today, we at Sanders Law Firm will examine the phenomenon of drowsy driving, a risk factor that potentially leads to more crashes.

Drowsy driving occurs when someone gets behind the wheel despite the fact that they are exhausted and should rest up first. Because drowsy driving doesn't get as much bad press as drunk driving or distracted driving, it is still done frequently by people all across the state and country.

However, drowsy driving can have as much of an impact on someone's mental and physical capabilities as both of the two aforementioned issues. For example, drowsy drivers have the same coordination problems and delayed reaction times that drunk drivers suffer from. They also have the attention span of people who are driving while distracted. They are less likely to be able to brake on time, more likely to swerve without warning, and unlikely to avoid hitting vehicles that might be in their way.

Additionally, drowsy driving often results in severe crashes because the drowsy driver is not able to react in time. They may even fall asleep at the wheel and drive into oncoming traffic, adjacent lanes, or swerve off of the road and hid pedestrians.

Have you recently been involved in a crash that took place because another driver was fatigued? Consider looking at our web page on auto crashes to learn more about what you can do to gain the compensation you deserve for your injuries.
