Two-year investigation leads to indictment

People who live in New Mexico and find themselves facing serious criminal allegations can understandably find this type of situation scary and uncertain. However, it is important to remember that the laws in the state and the United States require that all people have the opportunity to appropriately defend themselves against any type of criminal charge. An arrest and even an indictment is by no means a guarantee that a defendant will be found guilty of any charge or forced to endure any criminal penalties.

There are 12 different people who today must be reminding themselves of exactly these facts after their recent arrests and indictments. As reported by, the individuals face a myriad of criminal charges involving drugs and weapons. The charges are the result of an investigation that was first launched in 2017 and involved multiple entities that participated in a coordinated Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.

The charges against the defendants vary but some of them are the possession of illegal substances with the intent to distribute the drugs, distribution of illegal substances, and the conspiracy to distribute illegal substances. Some defendants are also accused of possessing weapons or ammunition when they were not allowed to due to the fact that they had previously been convicted of felony offenses.

The drugs involved in the case include fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine. Crack is the base product from which cocaine is produced. Authorities assert the group operated in both New Mexico and in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.
